United ready for Kane deal

The Sun believes that Harry Kane will be available at a lower price this summer, if Tottenham fail to make the top four.

That has given Manchester United encouragement to pursue the star as they search for a more prestigious replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo than Burnley’s on-loan striker Wout Weghorst.

The paper claims: “Old Trafford chiefs reckon Spurs missing out on a Champions League place will see them lower their £100 million asking price.

“United have made contact with Kane’s camp through a third party and have been encouraged by the response.

“Kane turns 30 in July — and has achieved his ambition of becoming Spurs’ all-time top scorer.

“While United were hammered 7-0 at Anfield on Sunday, there is still a belief that Kane has a better chance of finally winning a trophy at Old Trafford than at Tottenham.

“The England captain’s £200,000-a-week deal is up at the end of next season and failing to make the Champions League puts suitors in a better position to negotiate a lower fee.”

Lionel Messi could be offered huge MLS deal

The Daily Mail believes that Lionel Messi will be given a bumper payday to quit Paris Saint-Germain and move to Inter Miami in MLS football.

While the Argentine World Cup winner is in talks with his current side to remain, MLS are desperate to bring the biggest name in football to their league, and would be willing to make a huge offer.

“MLS are so determined to bring Lionel Messi to the States this summer that they will reportedly compensate the Argentinian’s family, according to league commissioner Don Garber,” the Mail explains.

“Messi – currently at PSG – has been linked with a move to America once his contract at the Parisian mega club expires in the summer, despite ongoing negotiations to extend his stay.

“The 35-year-old World Cup winner remains the biggest name in European football but soon could follow in the path of long-term rival Cristiano Ronaldo by making an international move at the tail-end of his career.”

United takeover set to be brought into focus

The Glazer family’s reported plans to sell Manchester United rumble on, and the Mirror says that staff have been told that there will be more information before the end of the season.

Jim Ratcliffe and a Qatari group are leading the way from bidders who have been made public, and talks are ongoing amid reports that there is no agreement made yet.

The paper claims: “Manchester United’s staff have been promised there will be clarity on the takeover situation before the end of the season.

“The Glazers are exploring outside investment or a full sale of the club they bought 18 years ago. The Americans are deeply unpopular among the club’s fans, with the Red Devils having gone a decade without winning the Premier League title.

“Both bidders have offered below the Glazer’s £6 billion asking price, though it is hoped the talks will result in a compromise. There is said to be hope that an agreement could be in place by the end of April.

“It is claimed that Raine, the bank handling the takeover negotiations, has signalled that the Glazers remain willing to accept a full sale. One of the Glazer siblings, Avram, was in attendance at Wembley to watch United win the Carabao Cup final.”

Newcastle chase Tierney

The stories linking Arsenal full-back Kieran Tierney to Newcastle continue, with the Telegraph again suggesting that a deal is on the cards this summer.

Oleksandr Zinchenko’s arrival from Manchester City has reinvigorated Mikel Arteta’s tactical approach, while at Newcastle they are lacking a standout left-sided defender.

“Newcastle have spent much of the campaign with Dan Burn, who is usually a centre-back, operating on the left of their back four,” the report states.

“Eddie Howe is understood to be a long-term admirer of Tierney, who joined Arsenal from Celtic for £25 million in the summer of 2019.

“Tierney signed a new long-term deal in north London two years later, in June 2021, and will have three years remaining on his contract this summer.

“If Arsenal decide to sell the Scotland international, they will therefore expect to receive a significant fee for the 25-year-old.

“Tierney was one of the most important players in the early part of Mikel Arteta’s rebuild in north London but he has fallen out of favour this season following the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City.”
