Qatar is hosting the third meeting of the Quint Group on Somalia.

The third conference of the quint group on Somalia was held in the State of Qatar, with the participation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the United States, the Republic of Turkiye, the United Kingdom (UK), and the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The State of Qatar’s delegation to the meeting was chaired by HE Minister of State for International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater, who was joined by HE Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Counterterrorism and Mediation in Conflict Resolution Dr. Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani.

HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan led the UAE delegation, HE Assistant Secretary of State, Bureau of African Affairs Molly Catherine led the US delegation, and HE General Director of African Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Elif Comoglu led the Turkish delegation. HE the United Kingdom’s Special Envoy to the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea The UK mission was led by Sarah Montgomery, and the Somali delegation was led by HE State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Ali Mohamed Omar.

“The meeting discussed the current situation in Somalia, especially security, political and humanitarian aspects, ways that would achieve stability in Somali territory”.

The meeting discussed the current situation in Somalia, particularly the security, political, and humanitarian aspects, ways to achieve stability in Somali territory and priorities, and ways to strengthen joint coordination, as well as proposals to enhance confidence-building for Somalia’s stability, including the best ways to address the country’s current situation.

The State of Qatar reaffirmed its support for Somalia and pledged to continue providing the necessary assistance in laying the groundwork for security, development, and stability, as well as building a state of institutions and the rule of law that guarantees all Somalis’ rights while respecting Somalia’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity.

This meeting follows the first, which was held in London in November 2022, and the second, which was held in Washington in March 2023.
