– An advisory group informed the Cabinet Council on Thursday during its weekly meeting in Mogadishu on preventing challenges faced by auto-rickshaw operators. According to the committee, it provided a research study with 18 recommendations for resolving challenges faced by auto-rickshaw taxi drivers in Mogadishu. However, no elaboration on the 18 points was provided to the media.

In the last year, security agents have slain at least a dozen auto-rickshaw drivers in Mogadishu, sparking anti-government rallies. A military court sentenced several of the criminals to death by firing squad.

At the conference, the Ministers of Defense and Internal Security delivered briefings on the general security situation in the country as well as operations against the Al-Shabaab group. Following a fierce battle in southern Somalia, the Somali National Army (SNA) stated on Tuesday that it had killed 30 Al-Shabaab militants and injured numerous others. According to SNA Army Commander Mohamed Tahlil Bihi, the army repulsed the insurgents during the operation with the help of pro-government militia Ma’awisley.

The meeting of the Council of Ministers, presided over by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, called for increased vigilance against Al-Shabaab-planned difficulties during the holy month of Ramadan.
